Nashville, Tenn. - To wrap up the 2011 regular season, the Tennessee State University Flying Tigers picked up a victory in the 4x400m relay at the Vanderbilt Invitational on Saturday.
To close out competition, the relay team of Michael Rideout, Phillip Myton, Jamal Henderson, and Michael Johnson, recorded TSU's fastest time in the event this year. In dramatic fashion, the Flying Tigers edged out Virginia-Commonwealth by less than a tenth of a second breaking the tape at 3:17.01.
In individual competition, Rideout and Arthur Combest each finished in the top five in their event.
After running a season best in the 200m (22.04), Rideout finished third overall in the 400m with a time of 48.05. In the 110m hurdles, Combest finished fourth in a close race with a time of 15.04 seconds.
Other top performances this season at the Vanderbilt Invitational includes: Julian Mallory - 200m (22.04 secs.), Michael Johnson (50.03 secs.), Philip Myton (50.41 secs.), and Jamal Henderson (51.84 secs.) - 400m, Chris Hawkins - 110m hurdles (15.58 secs.), Jamal Henderson - high jump (6"4 - 1.93m), Adrien Hill - long jump (22"8 - 6.91m), Duvall Young - shot put (39"4.5 - 12.00m).
TSU will return to the track in two weeks when they compete in the Ohio Valley Conference Championship in Murray, Ky. The date is slated for May 6 - 7.
