Nashville, Tenn. - Tennessee State University Tigerbelle, Martinique Guice, earned another weekly honor after she was selected adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week.
She was recognized due to her third-place performance in the long jump at home in the 9th Annual Boston-Moon Classic on Saturday. She recorded her best jump of the season with a mark of 20"06.25 (6.25m).
It is the only jump over 20 feet in the OVC and ranks first in the league.
In addition, Guice's jump is listed 13th in the nation this year, and according to USTFCCCA (U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association), it ranks 33rd in the country, which includes performances dating back to last season.
The USTFCCCA ranking is similar to college football's BCS, FCS, and Division I Basketball's Top-25. After the conclusion of the third week of outdoor competition, last year's rankings will be dropped, giving Guice an opportunity to move up the list.
Guice continues to stack weekly honors from the OVC. After being named for her results in the 100m and 200m two weeks ago, her count now extends to eight in her career.
A seven-time OVC Champion, the senior retained her indoor long jump title in February and is a two time defending champion in outdoor competition.
Next, Guice will compete at the 45th Annual Sea Ray Relays hosted by the University of Tennessee (Knoxville). The meet is set for April 13-16 at the Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium. The women's long jump is scheduled for Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
