Nashville, Tenn. - Nearly half of the Tennessee State University men's track and field team improved their times over the weekend at the Tiger Track Classic hosted by Auburn University on Saturday.
The Flying Tigers had five athletes post personal records in seven different events with the men's 4x100 team setting a season best mark of 41.59 seconds (9). The overall effort led TSU to three finishes in the top ten.
Arthur Combest, with a PR of 14.88 in the 100m hurdles, placed seventh in the event, the best finish for TSU in an individual event on the day. Also, in the high jump, Combest's PR of 6"5.5 leap placed him 13th in the field.
Michael Rideout, although he didn't set a personal best time in the event, finished eighth in the 400m with a time of 48.24. Rideout was able to best himself this season in the 200m finishing 13th with a time of 22.19.
In the short sprints, Micah Poole finished in the top 20 of the field in the 100m with his season best of 10.93 seconds (18). Julian Mallory set a season fastest in both the 100m and 200m. In the 200m, Mallory posted a time of 22.19 seconds (13) while crossing the line in the 100m with a time of 10.97 (22). Poole and Mallory are the only members of the team to finish the 100m under 11 seconds.
In the 800m, Chris Hobbs recorded a time of 1:58:80 (27), currently his top performance on the season.
Next, TSU will host the 9th Annual Boston-Moon Classic on Saturday, April 9, at the Edward S. Temple Track Complex.
