Greensboro, N.C. – Over the holiday weekend, six student-athletes from Tennessee State track and field teams took part in the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Meet with hopes of qualifying for the National Championship in Eugene, Ore.
Ashontae Jackson led things off for TSU and placed 26th in the long jump after a leap of 5.94 meters. Fellow Tigerbelle, Clairiwn Dameus finished three spots behind Jackson with a hop that spanned 5.84 meters.
Dameus and Jackson later paired with teammates Diera Taylor and Quanisha Sales to finish in 17th place in the 4 x 100 meter after completing the relay in 45.22 seconds. The time was the second fastest for the team this season.
On the men’s side, Darryl Rice came in 29th in the high jump when he cleared the 2.05 meter bar and Royce Dates’s leap of 7.13 meters was good enough for 25th place in long jump.
While TSU’s season may be over, Dameus’s will continue when the freshman takes part in the Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 19-23.
