NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State Tigers were met with clear skies and humid air as they started the first day of fall practice on Monday at Hale Stadium.

“As a whole, we competed well on both sides of the ball,” head coach Rod Reed said. “The offense made some plays and the defense stepped up as well. I was excited with the tempo of today’s practice.”

The offense looked surprisingly crisp for the first training session of the season, as both Michael German and O’Shay Ackermann-Carter completed passes to a handful of Tiger receivers. Among those was Quindell Cousins who caught two long passes on the day, including one for a touchdown.

Defensively, true freshman cornerback Terrell Bonds made several key plays, batting away at least two passes and intercepting another.

“Terrell Bonds had a really good practice considering it was his first day. He intercepted a pass and got his hands on a few more. I’m really excited to see if he can keep the momentum going,” Reed said.

Special teams hit the mark, too, and redshirt freshman placekicker looks poised to take over for TSU points leader Jamin Godfrey this upcoming year.
