Tennessee State University redshirt freshman Steven Godbolt III earned FCS All-Freshman honors as announced by the College Sports Journal last week.

Godbolt, a selection on the 2011 OVC All-Newcomer team, recorded 37 tackles and seven pass breakups during his rookie campaign. His two interceptions at Tennessee Tech helped give TSU a 42-40 victory over the No. 19 team in the country.

A native of Cross City, Fla., Godbolt joins Rico Council and Joseph Wylie as All-American selections this season. Both Council and Wylie were named HBCU All-Americans, while Council also garnered recognition as an FCS All-American from the Sports Network/Fathead.com.

Tennessee State improved drastically last season going from winless in OVC play in 2010, to a 4-4 conference mark this season, which tied the team for fifth place in the OVC (after being picked eighth), and the Sgt. York Championship (contested between the four OVC schools from the state of Tennessee).
