Six Tigers Earn All-OVC Football Honors
Tennessee State University had six players named to the 2010 All Ohio Valley Conference football team. The All-OVC football team is selected by a vote of the Ohio Valley Conference Head Football Coaches and Sports Information Directors.
Leading the Tigers on the first team was senior safety Eugene Clifford. Four Tigers were named to the second team, running back Preston Brown, offensive linemen Alex Davis and Gershom Jordan and linebacker Rico Council. Linebacker Wilson Robinson was named to the All-Newcomer team.
Eugene Clifford , a 6-2, 204 senior safety from Cincinnati, Ohio, transferred to TSU from Ohio State in 2008. Clifford is a first-team All-OVC selection for the second year in a row in 2010, following a second-team and newcomer team selection in 2008. He capped his senior season with 83 tackles, four interceptions, 10 pass breakups and 14 pass deflections in 11 games (that ranked him 10th nationally in passes defended at 1.27/game). His solid blocking and leadership helped pave the way for a TSU offense that led the OVC in rushing during the first six weeks of the season.
Gershom Jordan, a 6-6, 325 senior offensive tackle from Nashville, Tennessee (Whites Creek HS), was playing his first year as an offensive tackle after switching from defensive tackle last season.
