Tigers Finish 15th at Skyhawk Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State men’s golf team completed play at the Skyhawk Classic by shooting a 10-over. Tennessee State finished 15th with a 27-over, 892 on a cool and windy day at the Par-72, 6,685 yard Paris Landing State Park, and part of the Tennessee Golf Trail.
 
Lee University secured the team and individual title. The Flames shot a 24-under, 840, with Hunter Vest leading the way by shooting a 12-under, 204.
 
After a pair of 3-overs on Monday, Andrew Warner (75-75-72=222) used three birdies to shoot a team low 72. On the third hole of the day, Warner hit the flag from 100-yards to set up a short putt for one of his birdies.
 
James Stepp (76-70-75=221) finished the third round with a 3-over, 75 and led the Tigers over the three rounds with a 7-over, 221.
 
Matt Campbell (79-76-75=230) was tied with Stepp for the second lowest score of the day for the Tigers. Campbell hit 10 fairways and 13 greens in regulation on his way to a 3-over, 75. The junior had a tap-in birdie on the par-4, 2nd, after he hit a gap-wedge from 133-yards out to one foot of the cup.
 
Blake Burgett (73-73-77=223) recorded the final scoring position for the Tigers with a 5-over, 77. Burgett completed the classic at 7-over.
 
Codie Welborn (76-75-77=228) posted a non-scoring 5-over, 77 on the final day. Welborn chipped in for birdie on the par-3, 17th for one of his two 1-under’s for the day.
 
The men and women will both participate at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on October 14-15. The men will play 54-holes, while the women will play 36-holes at the Austin Peay hosted event.
