Jumpers Leap into Form at Niswonger Invitational

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Tennessee State won both the men’s and women’s long jump as part of an impressive performance in the Niswonger Invitational.

Royce Dates jumped a distance of 7.50 meters to win his first long jump of the indoor season. The mark stands as Dates of  the year. Kareem Nicholas also put in a strong jump, of  6.90 in the long jump for a fourth place finish.

The Flying Tigers claimed top spot in the high jump with a 2.08 jump from Daryl Rice. Caleb Carrothers finished fourth in the event, clearing a mark of 1.98 meters.

Tigerbelle Clairwin Dameus captured the long jump on the women’s side, clearing 5.68 meters. The win was Dameus’ third time winning the event on the young season. Dameus paired her event winning performance with a fifth place time of 24.96 in the 200 meters.

TSU’s Jason Griffin paced the men on the track with a second place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.32 seconds. Reigning OVC Track Athlete of the week Quamel Prince continues to impress in the 800 meters, as he placed seventh in the distance with a time of 1:57.32 seconds.

The Tigerbelles’ Oteia Prince posted a season’s best time in the 800 meters, 2:24.75 seconds, for a fifth place finish. Freshman Maya Ramsey placed second in the 60 meter hurdles, clocked a time of 8.73 seconds.

Britanni Logan posted the best finish of a Tennessee State thrower with a second place throw of 13.91 meters in the shot put.
