Brentwood, Tenn. – On Sunday, the Ohio Valley Conference selected Tennessee State’s Jamin Godfrey and Samquan Evans as OVC Specialist and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for their roles in TSU’s, 41-21, win at Tennessee Tech on Saturday night.

For Godfrey, he connected on two field goals and added four extra points against the Golden Eagles. The senior nailed a 39-yarder to account for the only scoring of the second quarter and then added a 22-yarder midway through the third quarter to increase TSU’s advantage to 20-7. His lone miss on the night was a 52-yard attempt at the end of the first half.

Godfrey also successfully kicked and recovered an onside kick for Tennessee State in the second half.

Godfrey is now just two points away from fourth place on TSU’s career scoring list and he currently ranks third nationally in field goals made per game (2.3).

Evans, meanwhile, led the Tennessee State defense as the Tigers became the first OVC team to improve to 1-0 in conference play. The junior had a career-high eight tackles, including 2.5 tackles-for-loss (for 18 yards), 1.5 sacks (for 10 yards) and a forced fumble.

Evans is now second on the team in tackles for Big Blue with 20. His two sacks also only trail Anthony Bass for the team lead.

Godfrey, Evans and the rest of the Tigers will next take the field on Sept. 28 for a matchup with Central State in the Gateway Classic in St. Louis, Mo.
