NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After a successful first season at the helm, coach Larry Joe Inman is excited to continue the Lady Tigers’ rise in the OVC.

This year’s roster will include eight fresh faces, including seven true freshmen. The group will look to fill the void left by last season’s team. Inman and the Lady Tigers will be looking replace 48.8 ppg which amounts to 79 percent of the scoring from a year ago.

The team will also have to replace the Lady Tigers only member of either of the All-OVC teams, in All-OVC second teamer Kesi Hess. A season ago Hess led the team in points (12.6), steals (51), and free-throw percentage (85.5%).

TSU has been practicing for a little over three weeks and Inman is already seeing progression in this year’s unit.

“I’m very satisfied by the progress that we’re making. It’s a lot faster than I thought it was going to be, but it’s still not where it should be, but we have great young ladies and that’s why we’re making progress,” Inman said about his Lady Tigers. “They’re doing a good job making that progress themselves and trying to execute what we’re trying to do.”

Tennessee State will feature three returners, including starting point guard junior Rachel Allen, who averaged 3.8 points per contests while dishing out 3.4 assists per game. Allen will be joined by senior guard Alana Morris and junior forward Chelsea Hudson.

”They’re kind of like the glue that holds everything together,” said Inman about his returning core. “It’s great to have somebody you can lean on that knows a little bit of what we expect and they’re able to bring the young kids along.”

Tennessee State’s returners will help to bring along Inman’s first recruiting class, featuring seven freshmen and junior transfer LaTeasha Hill.

“The progress they’ve made as fast as they’ve made it with us so far has been amazing,” Inman said of his incoming freshman.

The freshman class includes: three gaurds (Diamond Beatty, Alexis Haddock, Jemilah Leonard), two forwards (I’mani Davis, Shekinah Gibson and Jayda Johnson) and one center (Julie McCarthy).

Fans will get their first look at the 2013-14 Lady Tigers when they host Tennessee Temple on Friday Nov. 1 for an exhibition game, tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
