Nashville, Tenn. – The Tigers volleyball team begins the second full week of practice on the 2013 season as they eye a run at the Ohio Valley Conference. Head coach Kathy Roulhac and her staff has mixed in individual workouts, as well as position workouts, into their preseason training schedule. TSU returns five from last year’s squad, including all-OVC selections Erika Moss and Naomi Wells, and welcome seven newcomers to Tiger Nation.

“Today, we spent a lot of time on transition volleyball,” coach Roulhac said. “We are still trying to get up to game speed. We have seven new people so we were slightly behind as far as our transition. So today we felt like it was very important to slow it down, every phase of the game.”

TSU will continue two-a-days with sessions of individuals through Friday and will begin their regular practice schedule when classes begin on Monday, Aug. 26. Coach Roulhac looks for continued growth from her young squad.

“I think we are ahead of schedule,” said Roulhac. “Some of our young ones are above where we expected and some are a little behind. We are working extra hard to make sure we get to where we need to be, so we can be ready come Aug. 30.”

The team continues to work together as they get to know each other. The Tigers took a couple days off of practice over the weekend for some team-building activities.

“We still need a lot of work on chemistry,” Roulhac stated. “We just came back from a team-bonding trip, which was very beneficial for us because we found out a lot about each other as teammates. The last time we went to Horns Creek we won the 2007 [OVC] Championship. We did a lot of high ropes, low ropes, dragging in the mud; you know just getting down and dirty. We got a great understanding of what it means to be a part of Tiger Nation and are ready to move forward and execute on the volleyball court.”

The Tigers are 11 days away from opening the season in Mobile, Ala. as they take part in the Jaguar Invite hosted by the University of South Alabama.
