Nashville, Tenn. – The Tigers closes out the 2013 season by hosting crosstown foe Belmont for an Ohio Valley Conference series at Tiger Field. Tennessee State and BU are scheduled for one game at 5:00 pm on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm on Sunday, weather permitting on both days. TSU will honor their seniors on day two prior to the games.
This weekend’s games can be seen on ovcsports.com.
The Tigers and Bruins have squared off 28 times, but this will be the first meeting as conference opponents. Belmont joined the OVC this year after competing in the Atlantic Sun.
After getting rained out on Saturday, the Tigers (14-33, 5-16) dropped two games to Tennessee Tech on Sunday, 7-5 and 7-3. The twin bill sweep at the hands of the Golden Eagles all but eliminated the chances of making the OVC tournament for the first time since 2001.
Jennifer Givens tried to pace the Tigers as she was 4-for-5 in game one and 2-for-3 in the nightcap. Givens scored twice and stole three bases in the opener and scored in the first inning of game two after leading off with a triple to leftfield. The senior is now batting .391 and has the opportunity to be the first player in Tiger history to hit .400.
