NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After opening the season on the road the Tennessee State volleyball team will begin the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday evening. The Tigers will host Alabama A&M at 6:00pm in Kean Hall.
TSU is 1-5 after two challenging tournaments, while AAMU is 0-10. The Tigers finished 0-3 at the Hoosier Classic this past weekend. UAB was able to grab a 3-0 victory over TSU on day one of the classic. The Tigers opened day two with a win in the first set against Indiana before falling 3-1. Wyoming was able to steal the first two sets from the Big Blue, but head coach Kathy Roulhac’s crew forced a game four. UW captured the 3-1 win to hold the Tigers winless on the weekend.
Junior Naomi Wells led TSU with 38 kills and 44.5 points, while senior Erika Moss averaged 9.45 sets per set and notched a total of 104. Four Tigers averaged over two digs per game. Taylor Swayzer (2.55) led the way with 28, just ahead of Wells (2.45) 27, Moss (2.36) 26 and Ileanushka Maldonado (2.00) 22.
Alabama A&M finished 0-3 in their last tournament at Missouri State. The Bulldogs dropped 0-3 matches to Oklahoma, Middle Tennessee State and the host MSU.
Ashley Forman pushes the AAMU attack with 263 assists for a 7.97 per set average. Forman’s favorite target has been Kyanna Sales who tops the Bulldogs with 253 attempts. Sales is hitting .142 with 81 kills, while Savanna Blackistone leads the Bulldogs with a .158 hitting percentage with 73 kills in 202 attempts.
