Nashville, Tenn. – On Friday, the Beyond Sports Network (BSN) released its annual Preseason All-American Teams and four Tennessee State football student-athletes were selected to either the first or second team.
TSU tight end A.C. Leonard made BSN FCS First Team All-American on the offensive side of the ball, while defensive back Steven Godbolt III was chosen on the defensive side. Senior guard Kadeem Edwards made the network’s Second Team and fellow senior, kicker Jamin Godfrey joined him on the squad.
For Leonard and Godbolt, the recent honor comes as no surprise as the duo were selected to the publication’s All-American Team at the conclusion of last season.
A year ago, Leonard led the Tigers with 733 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns in his first season with Big Blue.
Godbolt, meanwhile, led all of FCS with six interceptions.
Reigning All-OVC guard Edwards was selected to the Second Team, a year removed from starting every contest for the Tigers on an offensive line that featured current NFL players Sherman Carter and Rogers Gaines.
Godfrey, who last season was named Second Team All-OVC, improved his stock over the summer to make Preseason Second Team All-American. Last year, the Englewood native converted 16 of 20 field goals and 33 of 36 PATs.
The All-American teams were chosen based on awards won, statistics, video, and Sports Information Director recommendations mostly from the 2012 season.
