Nashville, Tenn. - Shea Morris was named Ohio Valley Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Morris picked up all three wins for the Tigers on the week and helped the Tennessee State get back into the OVC playoff race.

This is the second time this season, and the third time in her career, that she has earned the award. Amanda Vaught, in 2007, is the only other Tiger pitcher to be named OVC Pitcher of the Week two times in one year. In the same season, Candace Hildebrand was honored.

Morris shared the award with SIU-Edwardsville’s Haley Chambers who finished the week 2-1, highlighted by a five-inning perfect game.

The Tenneessee Sports Writers Association award was announced on Tuesday afternoon. This marks the first time Morris has been honored by the TWSA and the third Tiger this season. Audrey Sensing and Kiarra Freeman were named Players of the Week on March 5 and March 12, respectively.

Morris just missed her first career no-hitter by two outs in the opener with Austin Peay. She did not surrender a walk while striking out 11 in game one. Morris returned to the circle in game two to record her second consecutive shutout victory helping TSU secure their second series sweep in school history, the first since 2007 which resulted in Hildebrand earning her Pitcher of the Week honor.

Morris fanned seven batters in the nightcap as she threw 218 pitches over the two games on Sunday, 161 for strikes (74%). The sophomore hurler struck out nine batters in a 5-3 win at Murray State tossing 85 strikes in 118 pitches (72%). Morris held opponents to a .176 batting average on the week and now has 178 strikeouts on the season.

The Lawrenceburg, Tenn., product has four shutouts on the season and six in her career. Both totals are tied for third in the TSU record books for season and career, respectively.

TSU continues their pursuit of a spot in the OVC tournament as they host Tennessee Tech in a three-game series April 27-28.
