Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee State men’s golf team took to the course as they hosted the 2013 Big Blue Intercollegiate on a hot Monday afternoon. The temperatures reached 80 degrees as the participants played 36 holes on the Par-72, 7,157 yard President's Reserve Course at Hermitage Golf Club. Playing as an individual, Dallas Hill carded a team best 3-under, 69 during the first round. Hill finished the day tied for 24th at Even Par. The Tigers shot a 2-over in the morning session and finished the day at 10-over and are in 11th out of 14 teams.

TSU is just 12 strokes out of a top five finish. Southern Illinois, out of the Missouri Valley Conference, is at the top of the team standings with a 9-under, 567 (283-284).

Hill’s (69-75=144) first round performance was one of his best as a Tiger. The sophomore double bogeyed his second hole of the day, the par-5, 18th, but quickly found his groove as he birdied the next three holes to drop to 1-under. Hill continued his personal best round with back-to-back birdies on eight and nine, as well as 14 and 15, to go along with eight pars.

Hill came back to Even at the end of play with one birdie and 14 pars after a second round 3-over. Hill’s only birdie in the afternoon was his second consecutive round on the 1st.

Cameron Scitern (73-72=145) completed the day in a tie for 33rd at 1-over and is eight strokes off the lead. Scitern recorded 11 pars in each round with three birdies in the first round and four more in the second. The senior found success in both rounds on the par-4, 6th, as well as on the par-5, 14th and the par-5, 18th in the morning round. Scitern began the second round with a 1-under on the par-4, first and dropped two more, the par-3, 12th and the par-4, 16th, to close out the day.

Shane Sampair (72-75=147) entered the clubhouse with the second most pars through the first 36-holes of competition with 29, one behind Alex Cox of Lipscomb. Sampair used 14 pars in the first round and 15 pars in the second to finish at 3-over. The sophomore transfer scored his lone two birdies during round one on a pair of par-5’s, the 2nd and the 5th.

After a non-countable 3-over through the first 18-holes, James Stepp (75-74=149) came back with a 2-over, 74 to help the Tigers stay in the hunt. Stepp is 5-over for the tournament as he registered two birdies and 12 pars in each round. The sophomore experienced success on the par-5’s picking up birdies on the 8th in both rounds and on the 14th in the first and on the last hole of play, the 18th.

Codie Welborn (74-75=149) marked two team score counting rounds of 2-over and 3-over and is tied with Stepp at 5-over on the day. Welborn carded 11 pars in each round and five birdies on the day, three in the first round and two in the second. Over the first 18, the junior lowered his score on the par-4, 5th, the par-3, 12th and the par-3, 15th. In the second round, Welborn used the 8th and his second to last hole of the day, the par-4, 1st, to lower his score.

Warner’s two birdies in the afternoon came on the 8th and, once again, the 18th.

Matt Campbell (78-81-159) played as an individual and checked in with 22 pars (13-9) and one birdie for a 15-over. Campbell found the bottom of the cup for his lone birdie during the afternoon on the par-4, 6th.
