Lady Tigers return home to host Jacksonville State

GAMEDAY
The Tennessee State University women's basketball team will return to its home court to face off against Jacksonville State on Wednesday, Jan. 23. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. in the Gentry Center.  

THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State is coming off a 66-54, OVC loss to Belmont on Saturday. With the loss the Lady Tigers fell to 6-10 overall and 2-3 in league play. TSU is 2-3 at home this season.

Tennessee State's three top leading scorers are Kesi Hess (10.8 ppg), Jasmin Shuler (9.4 ppg), and Simone Hopes (9.0 ppg). Hopes also leads the Lady Tigers in rebounding with 6.5 boards per outing.

As a team, TSU is averaging 58.6 points per contest while shooting 35.7 percent from the field and 28.5 percent from beyond the arc. TSU is currently shooting only 68.3 percent from the free-throw line while committing an average of 17.5 turnovers per game.

TSU averages 36.1 rebounds, 10.1 assists and 9.7 steals per game. The Lady Tigers are under first year head coach Larry Joe Inman.

LAST TIME OUT
Tennessee State played a tough first half, but couldn't withstand Belmont's second half runs in a, 66-54, loss to the Bruins in the Curb Event Center on Saturday night. Kesi Hess led the Tigers with 21 points while Chelsea Hudson had a team-high seven rebounds. Hess knocked down five three-pointers in the contest. TSU fell to 2-3 in the OVC. 

ABOUT JACKSONVILLE STATE
Jacksonville State's struggles have continued as the Gamecocks fell to 0-19 and 0-7 in the league after their most recent loss to Eastern Kentucky.

JSU fell to EKU, 69-51, in Pete Mathews Coliseum on Saturday. In the loss, Bria'unna Buckner led the Gamecocks with 15 points while Candace Morton added 10. Jacksonville State shot 27.7 percent from the field and hit five three-pointers in the contest.

The Gamecocks are in sixth place in the East Standings.

As a team, JSU averages 54.7 points per game behind a .351 shooting percentage. The Gamecocks

TSU vs. JACKSONVILLE STATE
Tennessee State and Jacksonville State will meet for the 24th time in the series history and the second time this season. The Lady Tigers claimed the first meeting, 88-68, in Pete Mathews Coliseum. JSU holds a slight, 12-11, series advantage.

LAST TIME THEY MET
A little over two weeks ago, TSU defeated JSU, 88-68, on the road. The Lady Tigers scored a season-high 88 points and had four players to post double-digits in points led by Kesi Hess' 22. Destiney Gaston added 18 while Jasmin Shuler scored 16 and Chelsea Hudson followed with 13.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
The Lady Tigers will hit the road to face Morehead State (1/26) and Eastern Kentucky (1/28) before having a week without action. TSU will host Tennessee Tech on Feb. 4 in the Gentry Center.
