NASHVILLE, TENN. - Tennessee State
University announced Monday that Robert Cain is the new head men's and women's tennis coach.
Cain spent the last six years as head tennis coach at the University of Arkansas
at Pine Bluff. Cain arrived at UAPB in 2006 after assisting in a
very successful junior program at the Little Rock Racquet Club in
for six years.
During his time at Arkansas Pine Bluff, Cain completely overhauled the tennis program. Cain brought in his first recruiting class for the 2008 season with six new players arriving for that season from countries such as Canada, Mexico, Ecuador and Venezuela .
In the past four years as head coach Cain led the Golden Lions, a once inexperienced and struggling tennis program, to the talk of the conference. He guided six freshmen to the conference finals and two semi-finals over the past three years.
Cain has led his team to a very impressive record of 43- 20, two back to back 8-0 seasons in conference, two western division titles and a SWAC coach of the year runner-up, two freshman of the year, four 1st team all SWAC and five 2nd team all SWAC.
Cain also has his team providing leadership in the classroom posting a 3.74 GPA best on campus and in the SWAC (2008/2009). He also has 10 all SWAC academic athletes.
Cain is very active in the community developing juniors and teaching adults in Pine Bluff and Little Rock. He will also be starting a youth tennis program to teach disadvantaged kids how to play tennis and learn some life skills.
A native from Sacramento, California with more than 20 years of coaching experience Cain has the program on the rise and moving in the right direction. Robert is married to his lovely wife Andrea they have three kids Robert, Naya and Cordell
