TSU Offense Shows Improvement at Final Scrimmage

Tennessee State University head football coach Rod Reed and his staff put the 2011 football team through their final full scrimmage of summer camp Saturday (8/20), and watched as the offense showed improvement after three weeks of drills.

The team ran around ninety plays which saw a mixture of first and second team units mix into the action. The defense played well throughout the scrimmage, but the offensive teams were able to score several TDs on break away plays. Junior running back Ryan Berry showed his quickness and versatility scoring two touchdowns, one on a 54 yard scamper and another on a 29 yard screen pass.

Senior running back Dante' Thomas rushed for 84 yards on 10 carries, capped by a 38 rumble up through the middle of the line. Sophomore Trabis Ward rushed for 65 yards and 1 TD (2 yds) on 10 carries. Senior quarterback Jeremy Perry completed 10-of-16 passes for 115 yards and freshman Michael German was 4-of-10 for 40 yards and a TD.

The special teams showed marked improvement as sophomore kicker Jamin Godfrey was three-for-three on field goals of 31, 37 and 41 yards. Freshman punter Matt Moseley blasted several spiral punts of over 40 yards.

The Tigers, preparing for their season opener against the Southern Jaguars at LP Field on Saturday, September 3rd, will participate in five more days summer camp before holding Fan Appreciation Day on Saturday, August 27th at 3:00p. The coaches and players will greet fans in the Tigers' new Indoor Practice Facility to take photos and sign TSU football calendars.
