ATHENS, Ga. – Lindsey Burgess crushed a three-run home run into the wind and through the trees at Jack Turner Stadium on Wednesday evening, but it was not enough for Tennessee State to derail #15 Georgia. The Bulldogs would tally runs in four different innings to grab an 8-3 win in the final non-conference road game before the start of Ohio Valley Conference play.

The Bulldogs are now 22-2, while TSU falls to 12-16 and sees their five-game win streak halted.

Tennessee State threw their whole staff at Georgia trying to keep them off-balance. UGA would not be stopped and scored a run in the second, four in the third, two in the fourth and one in the sixth, on an evening where wind gusts reached up to 26 MPH.

In the fifth and trailing 7-0, Burgess came to the plate with Tayler Shimizu and Liz Stansberry on base, after the two had walked in consecutive at bats. On the second pitch of the at bat the sophomore was hit by Chelsea Wilkinson, but the umpire ruled she was to continue the at bat. Four pitches later, Burgess would use the opportunity to drive a ball into the wind and over the left field fence to make the score 7-3.

Wilkinson would hold off the Tigers surrendering two hits and three walks to improve to 12-2. Kate Morris registered the first hit of the game for TSU in the third inning.

Hannah St. Clair (2-4) took the loss by giving a run on two hits in her two innings of work. Olivia Gamache came in to work the middle innings and was touched for six runs on six hits and two walks. Shea Morris came in with two outs and bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, but enticed a fly ball to get out of the inning. Morris worked 2.1 frames and issued three hits and a walk.

The Tigers will return home to face Eastern Kentucky in the OVC opener on Mar. 15-16. The series will begin at 1:00pm on Saturday with a double header and conclude on Sunday with a single game at 1:00pm.
