BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – With under a month before the OVC Indoor Track and Field Championship, the Tennessee State teams each had good showings over the weekend at the Samford Multi & Invitational.
Quanisha Sales led the Tigerbelles, finishing fifth in 60-meter dash with a time of 7.61 seconds and fourth in the 200-meter after a 24.52 final.
Freshman Amber Hughes also represented her side well by picking up a second-place trophy in the 60-meter hurdles, completing the event in 8.50 seconds.
In the field events, Jalyn Burr (1.68 meters) and Clairwin Dameus (5.95 meters) won the high jump and long jump pentathlons, respectively, Brittani Logan placed third in the shot put (14.04 meters) and Ashontae Jackson finished in seventh place in the long jump with a leap of 5.64 meters.
Jackson, Sales, Dameus and Hughes rounded out the invite by teaming up to come in second in the 1600-meter relay with a final of 3:42.55.
Tyler Anderson was the top attached finisher in the men’s long jump with a leap of 7.35 meters and Jahleel Michael led all collegiate athletes in the 1000-meter run heptathlon after completing the event in 2:47.87.
The squads will turn their focus to the OVC Indoor Championship, which takes place on Feb. 28 at Tennessee State.
