TSU Gears Up to Face No. 3 Tennessee on Tuesday

GAMEDAY
The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team returns to action on Tuesday when the Lady Tigers face No. 3 Tennessee on the road. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. ET in Thompson-Boling Arena.
 
THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State is coming off a win over Martin Methodist on Sunday. The Lady Tigers defeated the Redhawks, 92-61, in the Gentry Center. The win was the second straight and moved TSU to 3-7 on the season.  The victory was also TSU’s first home win of the season.
 
After ten games, TSU is averaging 68.5 points per outing while shooting 36.8 percent from the field. Chelsea Hudson leads the team in scoring with 18.9 points per game while Rachel Allen (11.5 ppg) and I’mani Davis (7.1 ppg) round out the top scorers for TSU.
 
The Lady Tigers, under second year head coach Larry Joe Inman, returned four letterwinners from last year’s squad and added eight newcomers, including seven freshmen, to the roster.
 
TSU finished last season with an overall record of 13-15 and a 9-7 conference mark. In an Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll that was released in October, TSU was predicted to finish fifth in the East Division standings.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Tennessee State won its second straight contest and picked up its first home victory of the season after defeating Martin Methodist, 92-61, in the Gentry Center. Chelsea Hudson led TSU with 24 points while Rachel Allen added 13. Jayda Johnson pulled down a team-best 12 rebounds while I’mani Davis recorded seven steals. TSU rallied to build a 15-point lead at halftime and never looked back. 
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Tennessee has yet to drop a contest this season as the Lady Vols are 9-0 to open the season. In the most recent win, UT defeated Troy, 103-64, in Thompson-Boling Arena. The Lady Vols are ranked third in the nation.
 
In the victory over Troy, six players scored in double-digits led by Bashaara Graves (16) and Meighan Simmons (16).  Cierra Burdick (15), Isabelle Harrison (13), Mercedes Russell (10) and Nia Moore (10) also registered double-figures.
 
A member of the SEC, Tennessee is averaging 82.2 points per game behind a .442 field goal percentage. The Lady Vols are shooting 35.5 percent from three-point range.
 
Meighan Simmons (13.7 ppg), Arial Massengale (12.9 ppg), Bashaara Graves (11.2 ppg) and Isabelle Harrison (11.2 ppg) lead the Lady Vols in scoring.
 
TSU vs. TENNESSEE
Tennessee State and Tennessee will meet for the third time in the series history. UT holds a 2-0 series lead. In the last meeting, the Lady Vols defeated the Lady Tigers, 104-51 on February 27, 1988.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
TSU will make its third trip of the season to the state of Florida as the Lady Tigers participate in the University of Florida’s Holiday Classic. TSU will face Florida on Dec. 20 before taking on either FIU or LaSalle on Dec. 21.
