Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee State men’s basketball team travels to Atlanta, Ga. for a trio of games, looking to capture its first victory.

The Tigers’ first opponent of the Coaches versus Cancer Classic will be South Alabama on Nov 19 at 3 p.m. and will continue at 6 p.m. on the following day with a contest versus host-school Georgia State. TSU will conclude its trip with an 11 a.m. meeting with Monmouth on Wednesday.

Tennessee State enters the classic 0-3, but having faced three quality opponents in BYU, South Dakota State and Minnesota.

Seniors Robert Covington and Kellen Thornton have been the statistical leaders for the squad so far this season.

Covington has bounced back from scoring just nine points against BYU by tallying 33 combined points in TSU’s other games. He is also second on the team in rebounds with 19 and is averaging 6.3 per game.

Covington’s 19 rebounds are second on the team behind Thornton’s 26. Thornton is also second on the squad, averaging 13 points per game.

Last time out, TSU lost to Minnesota by 29 points and shot just 23.7 percent as a team. However, that was the Tigers’ third game in six days.

TSU will now have to find its first win against three teams in three days.

The Tigers will first square off against South Alabama. The Jaguars are 2-0 this season, including a victory over Florida State on the road. The team is well rounded and features four players that average in double-figures. South Alabama has had the outside shooting game going so far this season, and are 15-33 (.455) from deep.

TSU will then play host school Georgia State. The Panthers haven’t won a game this season, but they have faced two quality foes in Duke and BYU. The squad will rely on Devonta White, Manny Atkins and R.J. Hunter to score points, because the rest of the players have just 32 points this year. It will be homecoming of sorts for coach Travis Williams and his staff, as he and two other of his coaches graduated from Georgia

State.

Tennessee State finishes off the classic with a game against Monmouth. The Hawks are 1-1 this year with a big win over Hofstra and a big loss to Notre Dame. Andrew Nicholas is the sole player who averages more than 10 points per game. He averages 18.5 points per game, having scored 37 through the team’s first two contests.

The action tips off at 3 p.m. on Monday and fans can see all the action, here.
