The 100 Moments of TSU Athletics presented by Taco Bell® series continues by remembering one of the best defensive players in Tennessee State football history.

In 1999, defensive end Lamar Carter broke Richard Dent's 15-year old sack record by recording his 40th sack of the season.

Carter's career total is higher than the marks of Claude Humphrey, Joe "Turkey" Jones, Ed "Too Tall" Jones and Cleveland Elam.

Carter's play earned him All-OVC Preseason Team honors in 1997 and 1999. He then finished the season on the all-conference team three times.

The Sports Network even named Carter and All-American at the conclusion of his senior season.

Carter played an instrumental part in Tennessee State's last two OVC Championship winning team in 1998 and 1999. During those two seasons, the Tigers won 20 games and lost only four.

In the Eastern Kentucky game during the 1999 season, Carter recorded 3.5 sacks which was the second highest single-game total at the time, trailing only Jones' seven back in 1968.

The 100 Moments of TSU Athletics presented by Taco Bell® highlights some of the greatest moments in honor of Tennessee State's centennial celebration. A new moment will be released each weekday for a total of 100. These moments were chosen by the TSU 100 Moments committee, which consists of alums from various departments. TSU has so many great moments, not all can be represented in these 100.
