Nashville, Tenn. – Senior Andrew Warner was named Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week. Warner finished third individually and helped Tennessee State to a second place finish at the Alabama State Fall Classic in Prattville, Ala.
Warner carded five birdies during the opening weekend to the 2013-14 season. The Hendersonville native shot an even-par, 72 during the final round after scoring a 3-over, 75 a day earlier. Warner drained a 35-foot putt for a birdie on the par-3, 13th to highlight play on day one. On Monday, the senior used an 8-iron off the box from 170-yards out on the par-4, 7th to within 3-feet to set up a tap in birdie. The senior finished found 21 fairways and hit 25 greens over the weekend.
This is the third OVC Golfer of the Week honor for Warner. He was named twice during his freshman season, once on October 27, 2010 and again on March 23, 2011. The second award was shared with former Tiger Richard Gill. Warner’s selection was the ninth all-time for the Tigers and the first since James Stepp was named for his play at the Alabama State Fall Classic last year.
TSU will return to action on Sept. 28-29 when the participate in the National Black College Hall of Fame Tournament in Atlanta, Ga.
