Lady Tigers Look to Send Seniors Off with a Win

GAME NOTES

GAMEDAY
In the final regular season home game of the season, the Tennessee State University women's basketball team will take the court to face-off against divisional foe Eastern Kentucky. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. in the Gentry Center. Six Lady Tiger seniors will be honored before the start of the game while the night will also feature Courtside Dining. 

THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State is coming off an impressive 83-57 victory over Morehead State on Thursday.  With the win the Lady Tigers improved to 12-14 (8-7 OVC) and clinched a spot in the OVC Tournament. The win snapped a two-game skid for the Lady Tigers who sit in fourth place in the OVC East Division standings. Another highlight of the victory was Jasmin Shuler recording her 1,000th career point.

With the OVC Tournament approaching, each game down the stretch is crucial. The Lady Tigers are currently in a three-way tie and have an opportunity to move claim the overall sixth seed in the tournament with a win over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday.

Tennessee State's three top leading scorers are Kesi Hess (12.6 ppg), Simone Hopes (11.2 ppg) and Jasmin Shuler (10.2 ppg). Hopes also leads the Lady Tigers in rebounding with 7.0 boards per outing.

As a team, TSU is averaging 61.7 points per contest while shooting 36.6 percent from the field and 29.8 percent from beyond the arc. TSU is currently connecting only 67.9 percent from the free-throw line while committing an average of 16.2 turnovers per game.

TSU averages 38.2 rebounds, 10.9 assists and 9.6 steals per game. The Lady Tigers are under first year head coach Larry Joe Inman.

LAST TIME OUT
The Tennessee State University women's basketball team played one of its best games of the season in an, 82-57, rout of Morehead State. TSU outscored MSU, 45-29, in the second half and won the battle of the boards, 43-34. Four Lady Tigers registered double-digits in scoring led by Jasmin Shuler's 19. Shuler also recorded her 1,000th career point in the contest. Kesi Hess had 18 while Destiney Gaston followed with 14. Simone Hopes recorded her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Alana Morris dished out seven assists.

ABOUT EASTERN KENTUCKY
Eastern Kentucky is most recently coming off a, 67-47, loss to Tennessee Tech. The loss dropped EKU to 17-9 overall and 11-4 in league play. The Lady Colonels are currently in second place in the OVC East Division. EKU has the opportunity to clinch the East Division and a share of the OVC regular season championship with a win on Saturday.

In the Lady Colonels most recent loss to Tennessee Tech, EKU was held to 25.5 percent shooting from the field, including 21.1 percent from beyond the arc. Marie Carpenter was the lone player to post double-digits with 10 points while Alex Jones was held to two points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Brittany Coles added nine points.

As a team, EKU is averaging 61.0 points per game behind a .371 shooting percentage. EKU is shooting .315 from beyond the arc and recording 42.0 rebounds per outing. The Lady Colonels register 12.6 assists, 18.2 turnovers and 8.3 steals per contest.

Marie Carpenter is the leading scorer for Eastern with 13.1 points per game. Brittany Coles averages 10.5 points per outing while Alex Jones  (9.1 ppg) is the third leading scorer for the Lady Colonels.

Eastern Kentucky leads the league in blocked shots and three-point field goal percentage defense while ranking second in scoring defense, defensive rebounds and field goal percentage defense.

TSU vs. EASTERN KENTUCKY
Tennessee State and Eastern Kentucky will meet for the 52nd time in the series history. EKU has won the last five over TSU holds a 36-15 series advantage. Last month, the Lady Tigers fell to the Colonels, 62-54, on the road.

LAST TIME TSU FACED EKU
TSU led EKU, 24-18, at the break but got outscored 44-30, in the second frame and lost the contest, 62-54. Simone Hopes had 17 points while Jasmin Shuler added 16. Kesi Hess was held to only nine points. Marie Carpenter led EKU with 19 points while Jade Barber, who is no longer on the team, had 15 points and 15 rebounds. Alex Jones tallied six points and 12 boards. TSU only made 3-of-12 from three-point range and got outrebounded, 45-38.
