The Lady Tigers, under first year head coach Larry Joe Inman, returned 10 letterwinners from last year's squad and added freshman Brianna Lawrence to the roster.
TSU finished last season with an overall record of 9-20 and a 5-11 conference mark. In an Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll that was released in October, TSU was predicted to finish fifth in the East Division. Jasmin Shuler, an all-OVC preseason selection, led the team in scoring.
In South Alabama's victory over Houston Baptist, two players registered double-digits in scoring led by Mary Nixon's 22 points and Mansa El's 15. Nixon also had a team best seven rebounds along with Brianna Wright.
The Jaguars shot a scorching 52.4 percent (33-of-63) from the field but only connected on 64.3 percent of their shots from the free-throw line. USA dished out 18 assists, recorded 11 steals and knocked down eight triples in the win. All, except one player, who saw action in the game scored at least two points in the contest.
