Tigers Fall to Murray State in Five

Nashville, Tenn. - The Tigers fall in the final game of their three-game series to Murray State on Sunday afternoon at Tiger Field. The Racers scored three runs in the second and seven in the fifth for a 10-0 win to complete the sweep of TSU in the first weekend of Ohio Valley Conference play. Tennessee State is now 6-11, 0-3 in the OVC, and Murray State improved to 8-4 overall and 3-0 in conference.

Starting pitcher Shea Morris was touched up for 12 hits and three walks, while striking out six. The freshman saw her earned run average increase to 3.89 on the season and is now 4-6.

The key blow for Murray State came in the fifth inning when Leslie Bridges lifted a ball just over the fence in left field for a grand slam home run. The blast gave the Racers a 7-0 lead and was the beginning of a seven run inning that closed out the game.

Murray State pitcher CheyAnne Gaskey improved to 2-0 by hurling a three-hit shutout with three walks and three strikeouts.

Jordan Rehl and Devin Amar were each 1-for-2 at the plate, while Jennifer Givens finished for 1-for-3 

The Tigers will step out of conference play for six games, beginning with a midweek home double header against Alabama State on Wednesday, March 14. The first game against the Hornets is scheduled for 1 p.m. TSU will conclude the week by hosting Ohio State, Belmont, Mississippi Valley State, Mercer and St. Bonaventure in the Tiger Classic. First game for TSU is at 7:15 pm on Friday, March 16, versus Ohio State.
