Tigers Begin Key Stretch at Tennessee Tech

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee State will begin the second half of Ohio Valley Conference play as they travel to Cookeville to take on Tennessee Tech. The Tigers and the Golden Eagles will embark on a three game series as both teams try to move into position for a spot in the conference championships. TSU is currently one game out of the final spot and is half a game ahead of TTU.
 
Day one will consist of a twin bill with first pitch scheduled at 1:00pm, while day two is set for a single game at 1:00pm. The games can be heard on tsutigers.com and seen on ovcdigitalnetwork.com.
 
The Tigers are on a two game win streak in conference play after a sweep at Southeast Missouri on Sunday. Hannah St. Clair and Shea Morris earned wins in the circle for TSU.
 
In a non-conference game versus Samford on Wednesday, Morris became the first Tiger to reach 500 in career strikeouts. The junior fanned five in her six innings of work and sits at 504.
 
Lindsey Burgess continues to lead TSU in hitting with a .298 average and in home runs, hitting her fifth on Wednesday. The sophomore is second on the team in runs (19), doubles (7), RBI (17) and stolen bases (6). Freshman Courtney Gearlds follows Burgess, hitting .283 and leads the squad with 13 swipes and 11 HBP.

The Golden Eagles are batting .234 as a team and are spearheaded by Angi Sakamoto, Kendall Hooper and Madison Taylor. Sakamoto, leading the team hitting at a .300 clip, and Hooper top the team with five home runs. Sakamoto has a team high 23 RBI, while Hooper registered two long balls earlier in the week versus No. 4 Tennessee. Taylor and Hooper are tied for second on the team with a .282 batting average. Taylor has a team high 10 doubles. In the circle, Hannah Weaver and Danielle Liberatore have compiled the majority of innings, getting support from Taylor Ketchum. Weaver is 4-16 with a 4.12 ERA in 110.1 innings, Liberatore is 6-10 with a 4.30 ERA in 99.1 innings and Ketchum is 1-4 with a 4.32 ERA in 48.2 innings.
