NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The track and field team picked up six wins over the weekend at the TSU Invitational, Wednesday the OVC honored the program with three performers of the week.
Quanisha Sales and Ashontae Jackson picked up Co-OVC Track and Co-OVC Field Athlete of the Week respectively. On the men’s side, Royce Dates was named the OVC Field Athlete of the week.
Sales had the best meet of the indoor season taking the titles in the 55 meters and 200 meters. In the wins the Nashville, Tenn. native posted the fastest times in the OVC for the adjusted 60 meters (6.97 seconds) and in the 200 meters (24.30). The senior also took part in TSU’s 4x400 meter relay team that set an Ohio Valley season best time in 3:34.11.
Jackson, the reigning OVC Outdoor Performer of the year, returned to form Saturday winning the long jump. The Gordonville, Va. Native churned out a career best jump in the event with a leap of 6.16 meters. Jackson’s mark stands as the best in the conference by 0.05 meters. The junior also set the best time in the 400 meters Saturday, crossing the line in 55.64 seconds.
For Dates Wednesday’s award marked the second time in three weeks that the jumper took home OVC Field Athlete of the Week, with the first coming on Jan. 22. The Memphis, Tenn. cleared a distance of 7.56 meters in the long jump Saturday. Dates’ leap currently stands as the best jump in the Ohio Valley this season.
The Flying Tigers and Tigerbelles return to the track Friday when they head to Birmingham, Ala. for the Samford Invitational.
