Knoxville, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team dropped a, 94-43, decision to No. 3 Tennessee, Tuesday night in Thompson-Boling Arena.
Tennessee improved to 10-0 on the season.
TSU fell behind 6-0 in the opening moments of the first half and it was an uphill battle the rest of the contest. The Lady Tigers got on the board when Rachel Allen connected at the free-throw line with 16:25 on the clock.
Later in the half, Rachel Allen buried a three-pointer from the top of the key to end a five-minute scoring drought but by that time TSU had fallen behind, 42-12.
The Lady Tigers saw the Lady Vols knock down 66.7 percent of their shots in the first frame as the home team carried a, 54-19, advantage into the halftime break.
After being outscored, 9-4, in the opening four minutes of the second half, TSU traded buckets with UT over the next several possessions.
The Lady Vols, however, maintained a comfortable lead throughout the remainder of the contest.
TSU made 14-of-74 from the field while only making one of 22 three-point attempts. The Lady Tigers only committed 16 turnovers while forcing the opponent into 21 miscues but got outrebounded 58-35.
The Lady Tigers return to action later this week at the Gator Holiday Classic. TSU will face host Florida on Friday, Dec. 20 before matching-up with either FIU or LaSalle on Saturday.
