Nashville, Tenn. -- Freshman Kiarra Freeman was selected to the Ohio Valley Conference All-Newcomer Team as announced on Tuesday evening by the conference office. The left-handed outfielder becomes the sixth Tiger in school history to be given this honor. Freeman joins teammate Shea Morris, who was named in 2012, Emily Samana and Candace Hildebrand in 2006 and Tamara Perkins and Amanda Vaught in 2007.
Freeman batted .361 (53-for-147) on the season, good for 10th in the OVC and is the seventh highest for a single season in school history. The hit total of 53 will place her fourth in the TSU record books for hits in a season. The Knoxville product finished second on the team this season only to Jennifer Givens who was fifth in the conference with a .384 average.
Freeman scored 22 runs on the year with two doubles, a home run, and stole 14 bases, ranking eighth in the OVC. Her .377 batting average in conference games only was eighth best amongst all hitters inside the OVC. During the season, Freeman recorded hit streaks lasting eight and nine games, respectively.
The outfielder was named Tennessee Sports Writers Association on March 12 for her performance during the TSU Tiger Classic. Freeman batted .421 in six games with three multi-hit outings, five runs and the game-winning inside-the-park home run in the tournament finale.
