The 2012 year marks the 40th anniversary of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.  A Federal statute created to prohibit sex discrimination in education programs that receive Federal financial assistance, Title IX has had a lasting impact on gender equality and access to education, including that related to intercollegiate athletics.

Throughout the 2012-13 academic year, the Ohio Valley Conference has been celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Title IX by honoring former student-athletes, coaches and administrators that have had a positive impact on women's intercollegiate athletes at each OVC institution.

Today, TSU Director of Athletics, Teresa Phillips was recognized for her contributions in expanding opportunities for women and championing diversity and equality in intercollegiate athletics and education.
