The 100 Moments of TSU Athletics presented by Taco Bell® series continues by recognizing the most prolific scorer in Tennessee State football history.

In 1972, running back Alfred Reese became TSU’s all-time leading scorer with 112 points throughout the season. The number gave him 306 total points scored during his collegiate career, which is 30 points higher than the second-place holder.

Reese’s 112 points during his senior campaign matched his record-setting sophomore season in which he scored 112 points on nine touchdowns.

Mathematically, Reese’s nine touchdowns only accounted for 54 of his points total. In addition to being the Tigers’ starting running back, Reese also served as the team’s place kicker. Therefore, the remaining 58 points in 1970 came from 40 extra points and six field goals.

With Reese’s 112 points during his final season, he became only the fifth Tiger to lead the team in scoring for three consecutive seasons.

After scoring just 23 points during his freshman season, Reese’s final number came courtesy of 27 touchdowns, 91 PATs and 10 field goals.

Reese also led the squad in rushing during 1970 and 1972. He had 340 yards as a sophomore and 802 as a senior.

Reese played a huge role in leading the Tigers to two Black College National Championships in 1970 and 1971. During Reese’s time at TSU, the Tigers posted an overall record of 38-3-1 and won three end of the year bowl games.

In 1973, the San Diego Chargers drafted Reese in the 13th round of the NFL Draft.

The 100 Moments of TSU Athletics presented by Taco Bell® highlights some of the greatest moments in honor of Tennessee State's centennial celebration. A new moment will be released each weekday for a total of 100. These moments were chosen by the TSU 100 Moments committee, which consists of alums from various departments. TSU has so many great moments, not all can be represented in these 100.
