The 100 Moments of TSU Athletics presented by Taco Bell® series continues by remembering the last undefeated season in Tennessee State football history.

In 1984, the Tigers finished the season 11-0 by setting a handful of offensive records that are still standing today.

The 1984 squad was coached by William Thomas in his first year as TSU. Under Thomas' guidance, the Tigers scored a school-record 450 points and 63 touchdowns.

The main scoring threat was quarterback Kenneth Biggles who tossed 24 touchdowns passes on the year and amassing 2,242 yards on the season. Quarterback Gilbert Renfroe also had a fine year, throwing for 18 scores as well. The two combined for a school-record 3,765 yards and 342.2 yards per game.

Most of the passes were caught by Barry Collins who hauled in 12 touchdowns on the season. Collins caught 59 passes total for 908 yards.

The TSU defense was also a stout group who intercepted a TSU record of 28 passes on the year.

Combining the two impressive units meant that TSU was on the good side of a handful of lopsided scores. In fact, the Tigers outscored opponents by a whopping 450-126 including a school-record 71-point victory over Kentucky State.

The team also boasted five All-Americans in Collins, James Derico, Herman Hunter, Carl McAfee and Roger Robinson.

Hunter was later drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the eleventh round of the 1985 NFL draft.

The 100 Moments of TSU Athletics presented by Taco Bell® highlights some of the greatest moments in honor of Tennessee State's centennial celebration. A new moment will be released each weekday for a total of 100. These moments were chosen by the TSU 100 Moments committee, which consists of alums from various departments. TSU has so many great moments, not all can be represented in these 100.
