For the second straight week, a Tennessee State player is named Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Sunday.

Quarterback Michael German completed 27-of-36 passes for a career-high 318 yards and three touchdowns in the Tigers 34-14 victory over Austin Peay on Saturday. The 27 completions was also a career-high for the sophomore, while the three touchdown passes equaled his career-best set last season against UT Martin.

The last TSU QB to throw for more than 318 yards was Riley Walker, who threw for 381 yards at Jacksonville State during the 2004 season.

German completed a 27-yard pass for a touchdown to Travis James in the second quarter, a four-yard touchdown pass to Johntae Gleaves to begin the fourth quarter and ended the game with a 51-yard strike to A.C. Leonard with 2:12 to play to account for the final margin.

The game was the first played at Hale Stadium on the TSU campus since the 1998 season.

German’s performance helped TSU to a 3-0 start to the season for the first time since 2008.

So far this season, the Pompano Beach, Fla., native has completed 58 passes for 718 yards and five touchdowns. His 17 career touchdowns are only five behind Riley Walker for fifth on the all-time TSU career touchdown passes list.

German currently ranks 23rd nationally in passing efficiency (142.19) and 30th in total offense (236.33 yards/game).

Before Trabis Ward was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week last week, the last TSU player to win the award was QB Antonio Heffner on November 9, 2008

Tennessee State (3-0, 1-0 OVC) travels to Daytona Beach, Fla., next week to take on Bethune-Cookman (2-1) from the MEAC. Kick off is scheduled for 3 p.m. CST.
