Josh Cooperwood returns to Tennessee State as a student assistant coach after playing professionally for the past eight years.

The Nashville native spent two seasons with the Tigers men's basketball program from 2001 until 2003. After completing his eligibility at TSU, Cooperwood started his professional career with the Windsor Drive in Canada.

From there, Cooperwood spent a season for Maccabi Qiryat Biallik before returning to Nashville in 2005. After his brief stint back in the United States, Cooperwood played six seasons overseas.

He finished his career with the Saba Caspian Mehr in Iran. In his final season, Cooperwood averaged 17.1 points, 5.6 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Cooperwood will assist current student-athletes with their progress and can provide a unique perspective after spending two seasons in a Big Blue uniform.
