Jerrell Cogmon

Jerrell Cogmon joined the TSU Football staff in 2010 after spending a season at North Dakota State College of Science.

At NDSC, Cogmon coached the linebackers while coordinating special teams in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. In his stint, North Dakota State led the conference in total defenseand was awarded a bid to the 2009 Graphic Edge Bowl in Ceder Falls, Iowa

He played his collegiate career at Bethune Cookman University (94-96) and was a three-year strter. He was selected All-MEAC three times and was named Defensive MVP of the 1994 Florida Classic. In 1996 he became a Sporting News All-American Candidate while leading the Wildcats in tackles, sacks and was voted a Team Captain and Defensive MVP. He left his career at Bethune-Cookman as 6th all-time in tackles and is ranked top ten in seven other statistical categories.

Professionally, he played one season with the Florida Bobcats of the Arena Football League in 1998. He began his coaching career in 2000 as a defensive coordinator at Tampa Bay Technical HS. He later spent spent one season at Freedom HS (2003) before landing his first head coaching position at Leto HS (2003).He led a struggling program to its first win in six seasons. He also coached five college athletes including Crosby Basptiste of Tennessee State and Arando Jamison of Howard University. For his contributions, He was a two time recipient of Reader's Digest Most Influential Person In a Student's Life Award in 2002 & 2003.

Cogmon, a native of Tampa, Fla. has a Bachelors of Science degree in Specific Learning Disabilities and a Minor in Varying Exceptionalities from Bethune Cookman University. He also holds a Master's Degree from Nova Southeastern University in Management and Education Administration. Cogmon is a Member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. and is married to Ramona Woods Cogmon. They have two children Jayla and Janae Cogmon.
